Third Coast Mahjong offers lessons carefully designed to engage beginning players from the moment they take a seat at our table. Whether you come solo or with a group, we’ve got everything you need to get Mahj’ing.
Beginner’s Series
Designed with our newest players in mind, the Beginner’s Series is the ideal way to kickstart your Mahjong journey. The series includes 3 consecutive weeks of lessons: Mahj 101, Mahj 102 and Guided Play.

$120 per person (includes a NMJL card to keep).

Mahj 101
In this beginner-level class we’ll cover the basics of American-style mahjong—From understanding the game’s components and reading the official National Mah Jongg League card, to playing the game with proper table etiquette.
Mahj 101 is a 2.5 hour class limited to 8 players. $50 per person.

Mahj 102
This beginner-level class is designed to help new learners practice their skills through guided gameplay. We’ll review the basics, go over tips & strategies for mastering the NMJL card, then jump into a practice Charleston and guided game play. This class is for those who have already completed Mahj 101 and are ready to gain more confidence at the table.
Mahj 102 is a 2.5 hour class limited to 8 players. $50 per person.

Guided Play
Confident with the basics and eager to get playing? Guided play is an engaging way to practice your Mahjong skills and gain confidence at the table. Our instructors will be on hand to answer questions and guide each game forward.
Guided play is a 2 hour session limited to 16 players.
